Make Holiday Travel With Children Easier
Going on holiday with your family should be a time for relaxation and stress-less times of fun, sun and enjoyment for all of the family but as many families across the world experience, it can sometimes be more stressful going on holiday than it is staying at home and continuing your working week.
It is well known that a high percentage of children do not like to travel long distances, whether that be within a car, on a plane or over sea and their constant asking of questions such as “Are we nearly there yet? What have we got to eat?” combined with the falling out between brothers and sisters for bigger families, just getting on holiday can be a bigger stress than anything else in the world.
With that in mind, we have come up with a few hints and tips that should be able to keep the children at bay through those long journeys, giving you the chance to relax a little more with minimal preparation, so that you get the real holiday feel without the kids dragging that back down.
Create each child a packed lunch
Depending on the distance that you have to travel, you need to plan ahead and realise that extended periods of travel will mean that people will get hungry and children are the first to speak out about it, so by just creating a packed lunch with filling foods (not sweets as the sugar will send them into overload!), you will be able to keep them quieter for longer.
Bring handheld music systems and games consoles to pass the boredom
Travelling has to be one of the worst parts about going on holiday and this is often the point in which the children really begin to put a strain on your holiday mood, so make sure that you have something with you that they will be able to use in order to keep them entertained for the majority of the trip.
New technology has meant that through tablet computers like the iPad 2 and other Android powered systems would be able to access the internet through 3G, meaning that children can still use the internet while on the move, great for giving the kids the chance to play free online games as there are often hundreds, if not thousands of gaming titles that will be able to keep them busy.
Kids games like Happy Wheels seem to be very popular within the online gaming market at the moment and with applications for phones such as iPhone and other smart phones costing as little as 99p, you have a great armoury to choose from.
Aim to travel either early in the morning or late at night
The time that you travel can play a huge part in how well the kids travel as if you travel within the middle of the day, they are wide awake, alert and have a large amount of built up excitement for their holiday, so looking to travel either early in a morning or late at night will mean that they will be more likely to sleep much of the way.
Although travelling at these times can sometimes mean that you have to get up and go, it will allow you a little quiet time before the mad rush of the children getting excited about their trip.
